In winter

Cross-country skiing

10 m from our house there is a cross-country course. The loipes extend over the whole valley of Kals.
There are: 7 classic loipes (20,3 km); 1 skating course (8 km); 1 high cross-country course (2,7 km). Equipment can be borrowed from the local sport shops.

Tobogganing

In Kals there are 3 tobogganing routes. One of them, the tobogganing route "Fallwindes", is a 5 minutes walk from our house. At the end of this route there is a nice hut. Anothere route, which leads to the cafè "Moa alm", is flatter and can be reached by car after 5 minutes.

Skiing

In Kals there is one of the family-friendliest skiing areas of Austria. The skiing area of Kals is linked to the skiing area of Matrei (a town near Kals) by an integrated ski infrastructure, so that you can enjoy your skiing holidays on both sides!
The area has about 110 km of slopes. These slopes are appropriate for amateurs as well as for professional skiers. Children and beginners can join a skiing course in our local ski school. In the sport shops there can be borrowed or bought the whole equipment.

Ice skating

In Ködnitz, the centre of Kals, there is a small but nice ice skating rink where you have also the possibility to do curling.

In summer

Water treading

In Lesach there is a pool filled with cold water where you can tread according to the Kneipp applications. There is also a playground with a climbing wall for children and a zip line.


Mountain railway

With the cablecar or, once a week with the chairlift, you can reach 2400 metres and make some hikes there while you were enjoying a wonderful panoramic view. You have the possibility to make a stop in the restaurant "Adlerlounge" or the mountain restaurant "Glocknerblick" or in the hut "Kals-Matreier-Törl-Hütte".
The valley station is a 5 minutes drive away from our house.

Mountain climbing

With our local mountain guides you are able to make some high alpine tours, if you want to even to the "Großglockner", the highest mountain of Austria. There are many huts where you'll get board and lodging.

The circular walk "Talrundweg"

There's a 19 km long circular walk over the valley of Kals with lots of experience stations, information boards and fountains. For children there are some playgrounds, for example the water experience place in "Arnig" or a place in the "Gschlösstal" where you have to listen very well to the noises of the nature. You can relax and enjoy nature on the benches that are placed along the circular walk. The latist thing are the book boxes.

Hiking

The hiking area of Kals is very wide and there are routes for every degree of difficulty. For your personal tour planning you can use the website "glocknerspuren.at"

Rafting and canyoning

Very exciting guided rafting-tours for the whole family are offered, among others, at Ainet, a town which is about 20 km from us. You raft on the unique glacial river "Isel".

Outdoor swimming and the lake "Tristacher See"

In Matrei, Virgen and Lienz there are outdoor swimming pools where you can find refreshment on a hot summer day. The lake "Tristacher See" is near Lienz, the capital of Osttirol.

The National Park "Hohe Tauern"

Two thirds of the municipality forms part of the area of the National Park "Hohe Tauern". In summer you can make there wildlife watching, guided trips for young and old etc.

Mountainbiking

The six acknowledged mountain bike routes are distribuited all over the valley floor. You can go in high alpine valleys or make a calm trip along the stream of Kals. E-bikes can be borrowed in the sport shops.
